My name is Billy Raike and I recently graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor’s in Radio, Television, and Film.
My time throughout college allowed me to be a part of the student-run Rowan Television Network (RTN) for my final two years.
RTN allowed me to not only work as crew on in-studio shows, but also out-of-studio broadcasts as well. I took full advantage of what RTN had to offer by being a part of all five in-studio shows my senior year; On the Couch as graphics operator / technical director, RTN News as graphics operator / technical director, All Access as technical director / VSO, RTN Tonight as technical director, and Rowan Roulette as audio operator. I also at times got to be other positions including camera operator, floor manager, assistant director, and director.
My experience in the studio led me to being named one of the assistant producers for RTN’s 11th Annual Telethon, but later named one of the Executive Producers for the 12th Annual Telethon.
RTN’s out-of-studio broadcasts consisted mainly of near weekly live sports broadcasts of Rowan Ice Hockey and Rowan Football. As with the in-studio shows, I got to be able to experience every position from PA all the way up to director. In my senior year, my experience on these shoots led to my peers electing me to the RTN Executive Board as one of the two Executive Sports Producers. My responsibilities grew to include producing more than 25 live broadcasts throughout the year from pre-production as the main graphic designer all the way to post-production to edit down the footage for uploading. Being in this position taught me a lot about being a leader in the field as well as how to have better time management and handling more responsibilities.
I hope to use my time at RTN as building blocks toward having a successful future in the industry and I cannot wait to get my foot in the door.
